Food, Eating, Drinking
| Dining in Bulgaria is a real treat, especially in the Rhodope mountains with its local freshly cooked speciality dishes. Bulgarian cuisine falls within both the Balkan culinary tradition which have been adapted to the local temperament and modified by European influences. Bulgarians are particularly fond of fresh and seasonal food, enjoying lamb as a favourite in spring, chicken in summer and pork in winter, with tons of vegetables. Pitorka bread is a local produce and is comparable to a warm indian nan bread. Meat and vegetable dishes include flame grilled fillets, stews, bakes and, of course, stuffed vegetables. Fish dishes are popular and are very fresh, having been caught from the local rivers. Salads are aplenty with the local variety of Shopska salad being a favourite. It takes advantage of the wide assortment of high quality vegetables that Bulgarians grow, of green and red peppers, tomatoes, cucumber, onions, olive oil, parsley and Bulgarian cheese. Along side traditional food, Italian pasta and pizza dishes are readily available, as well as Chinese, Indian and Mexican varieties. | ![]() white house restaurant in pamporovo |
